Practitioner Responsibilities
All practitioners providing online therapy shall:
1. Understand the Distinctions Between Online and Face-to-Face Therapy
Practitioners must familiarise themselves with the unique dynamics of online therapy, including its potential impact on the therapeutic relationship and process.
2. Conduct Thorough Client Assessments
Practitioners must assess client suitability for online therapy prior to commencing sessions, ensuring that online work is an appropriate medium for the client’s needs.

Practitioners must secure insurance coverage that explicitly includes online therapy activities.
4. Verify Client Identity
Practitioners must take reasonable steps to ensure that the client presenting for therapy is who they claim to be.
5. Obtain Client Agreement to a Therapy Contract
Practitioners must ensure clients have read, understood, and agreed to the terms of a personal therapy contract before therapy begins.
The contract shall confirm the following:

– The client will not partake in sessions under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs and will provide details of any prescribed medications.
– The client will ensure a safe, private, and distraction-free environment for therapy and disclose if others are present during sessions.
– The client agrees not to record sessions without the therapist’s prior consent.
– The client understands that the therapist may terminate the session without warning if it is determined that the session was booked for purposes other than therapy. In such cases, any pre-paid fees will remain non-refundable.
6. Emergency Protocols and Backup Contacts
Practitioners must establish an emergency plan, including a backup contact number or text arrangement in case of technology failure, as well as a third-party emergency contact for safety purposes.
7. Provide Clear Communication Regarding Technical Failures
Practitioners must ensure clients understand the procedures for handling technical disruptions, such as server outages or computer malfunctions.
8. Maintain Financial Transparency
Practitioners must provide clients with clear records of email transactions and a detailed breakdown of all fees paid.

10. Adapt to the Online Medium
